Connecting Research Across Continents
The Politecnico di Milano team recently took part in the 40th IEEE International Parallel & Distributed Processing Symposium (IPDPS 2026) and the 33rd Reconfigurable Architectures Workshop (RAW 2026) in New Orleans, followed by a research visit in the San Francisco Bay Area. These two activities provided an important opportunity to increase the visibility of the CancerScan project and share its latest developments with the international research community.
At RAW 2026, the CancerScan project was a sponsor of the workshop, which brings together researchers from around the world working on reconfigurable architectures and computing systems. The event was an important opportunity to share ideas about new computing solutions and discuss how these technologies can support challenging applications, including healthcare.
During IPDPS and RAW, the NECSTLab team presented the progress regarding the development of a hardware accelerator for tumour simulation. The goal is to improve the execution of complex simulation models that are part of the creation of tumour digital twins, using advanced hardware and software solutions.
During the visit to the San Francisco Bay Area, the team met professors and researchers from leading universities, including Stanford University and UC Berkeley, presenting NECSTLab’s research activities and the progress of the CancerScan project. The visit was also an opportunity to share the development of the medical imaging pipeline for the segmentation of relevant cellular structures, a key step for analysing digital pathology data.
